Clear sound supports clear communication

Whether it's missing sounds, sudden noises and voice distortion can hinder your calls.
If you are using Bluetooth® headphones and speakers, the cause of these problems may be related to the density of Bluetooth® devices in your work area. Other electronic devices and radio signals (such as WiFi) can also cause interference.

How to get great sound quality in your current workplace

This is true whether you're meeting with geographically dispersed colleagues or on the phone with a client. Drops, pops, and distortion can all hinder your ability to communicate.
If you use Bluetooth® headphones and speakers, the cause of these problems may be the density of Bluetooth® devices in use. Other electronic devices and radio signals (such as WiFi) may also cause interference. To illustrate the high performance you get from Bluetooth® audio devices, we've written this overview of how to manage Bluetooth® density in today's dynamic workplace.

Why Bluetooth Density Matters

Bluetooth Density refers to how many nearby devices can work simultaneously without interfering with each other's connections or reducing audio quality. The more powered Bluetooth devices and the greater the density in any given area, the higher the potential for radio interference.
Such interference can cause audio distortion, adversely affecting call quality and the resulting customer experience. Setting a limit on the number of Bluetooth audio devices that should be used in a specific area will help you get good performance and sound quality.

Bluetooth Basics

Bluetooth technology is a global radio transmission standard that supports a variety of wireless electronic device applications. The technology can connect devices up to 100 meters within line of sight, or up to 25 meters typical in an office environment, depending on Bluetooth level, device connection and environment.
In 1994, Ericsson introduced Bluetooth products to the market to overcome the challenges of connecting devices with multiple types of specifications and communication protocols. Since the introduction of Bluetooth, more than 20,000 companies, including EPOS, have joined the Bluetooth SIG as members, and the Bluetooth standard has become a popular way for mass-market consumers to connect their devices.

Why Bluetooth headphones and speakers are so popular

  • Wireless Bluetooth audio devices allow users to move freely within Bluetooth range
  • Bluetooth is a standardized wireless technology specification that ensures a high level of compatibility with other devices.
  • Bluetooth devices are reliable, versatile, have very low interference, and consume low energy.
  • Bluetooth technology is relatively inexpensive to deploy, automatic to set up, and easy to use.
  • Bluetooth devices can store multiple devices in the pairing list and can connect to up to seven devices at the same time.

Note: EPOS Bluetooth devices can store 8 devices in the pairing list and connect to two devices at the same time.

Guidelines for setting up Bluetooth device density in your work environment

If you have multiple headphones and speakers working in the same space, the distance between them and how they are used can affect the sound quality. Therefore, you need to establish a good method for distance between users to mitigate interference.
Be able to determine the number of devices that will work effectively in your space on a case-by-case basis. You may find in-depth information about density testing there, but the truth is, it's your workspace that should be designed with the specific performance criteria in mind.

Bluetooth and WiFi

Bluetooth headsets can be subject to interference from other devices that also turn on the 2.4 GHz frequency, such as printers, televisions, and WiFi routers.
You can mitigate interference by removing such devices (if possible) and switching your router to the 5 GHz frequency.

The new LE AUDIO Bluetooth standard will be launched soon

The Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio standard is a new architecture that supports Bluetooth audio applications. The standard supports new cases, longer battery life and higher bandwidth.
The LE audio standard will coexist with the current Bluetooth 5 and 5.1 standards. This means that all your EPOS devices will continue to work effectively into the future as LE Audio becomes more widely used.

Tips for users to avoid distractions

  • Try to limit the distance between your Bluetooth audio device and the connected source. Longer range means the transmission power must be higher, which will cause more interference with other Bluetooth connections
  • Stay close to the source device to reduce signal loss and interference from other devices
  • Turn off Bluetooth on phones and devices when not in use
  • If you leave your headphones in the office, be sure to turn them off before leaving

Free experience

EPOS offers a wide range of fully wireless Bluetooth headsets and speakers for hands-free communication and easy call control. Our versatile audio equipment is designed to make it easy for your team to work in a variety of situations and locations, in the office and in remote work environments.

Prepare your employees for remote work

EPOS Bluetooth headsets and speakers are the ideal solution for hybrid workers or those who travel frequently. Our Bluetooth devices are designed to be portable. In a work-from-home environment, limited range is rarely an issue, and devices paired with them tend to stay close to their owners during calls.
High-quality information is an important component of remote collaboration and online meetings. EPOS partners with the world's leading online conferencing platforms to develop, test and certify solutions for high-quality video and audio conferencing in all types of meeting spaces.

Put Bluetooth to work in your office

Today’s offices are dynamic spaces that require flexibility to adapt to rapid changes. Especially in these hybrid office days, the number of headset users on site can vary from day to day. EPOS equipment allows you to scale up easily and flexibly, continuously optimizing your office space.
Your office layout and the devices within it can have a direct impact on the performance of your Bluetooth devices. The EPOS team can help you review your floor plan or visit your office to help you create your ideal setup.

Repair lost packets – Manage RF interference

Packet loss occurs when data transmission via Bluetooth signals is interrupted. Solutions for dealing with this problem vary from vendor to vendor. At EPOS, we use proprietary algorithms to repair lost packets and ensure high-quality messages.

Don't let multiple connections get in the way of your work

Dual connectivity means connecting your Bluetooth audio device to multiple sources (such as your phone and your laptop) at the same time. This needs to be balanced so that calls are never lost and the channel is not polluted.

Set and forget, with the ability to optimize

EPOS Bluetooth devices automatically manage technical parameters such as operating range settings. Free use of EPOS Manager allows you to analyze devices everywhere and provide insights on how to work smarter.

WiFi frequency interference is a common problem with Bluetooth, which can cause clicks and pops during calls. This problem can be handled by using a dedicated base station or an adapter that connects to a phone, computer or other device. This creates a "closed loop" that ensures consistent audio quality.

Gain flexibility with DECT Mesh Combination Solutions

For a strong and stable connection, you can use a variety of wireless frequencies. EPOS offers a mesh solution that combines Bluetooth and Digital European Cordless Telecommunications (DECT), the two main wireless protocols used to connect wireless audio devices.
Compared with Bluetooth, DECT headsets can support higher user density. DECT devices are also more resistant to interference from WiFi and connected electronic devices.
Both wireless standards provide a secure, reliable way to connect telecommunications devices to each other. Our mesh combination solutions allow you to choose between the two depending on your specific situation.

Stay safe with Bluetooth and DECT

In everyday use, Bluetooth provides extremely high security, making calls nearly impossible to intercept. For healthcare professionals, legal advisors, and others who are particularly concerned about the privacy of their calls, DECT provides an additional level of security.

Sound better at work, no matter where you are

Providing you with outstanding sound clarity is EPOS's top priority, even in high-density environments. If you'd like to learn more about optimizing Bluetooth performance for your workforce, we're here to help.
