Its core product lines include cloud-native Session Border Controllers (SBCs), UC software switches and media gateways, SD-WAN Intelligent Edge, IP/MPLS routing and DWDM optical transport (IP Wave), as well as the AIOps and automation platform (Ribbon Acumen). The SBC series is certified for Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, Operator Connect, and Zoom Phone. Over 1,000 customers worldwide utilize its technology, and the company has business operations in over 25 countries across six continents.
Ribbon was formed in 2017 through the merger of Sonus Networks (founded in 1997) and GENBAND (founded in 1999). Headquartered in Plano, Texas, USA, it is listed on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol RBBN and has approximately 1,001 to 5,000 employees. In 2020, it completed the acquisition of ECI Telecom for approximately $486 million, significantly expanding its IP optical networking business line. Its predecessor, Sonus Networks, was recognized as a "Leader" in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for the SBC category for two consecutive years (2012 and 2013); IHS Markit also previously reported that Ribbon held a leading global market share in the SBC market.
